While countless other concept albums were made about great historical personalities, adaptations of great works of art, or literature, or even human relationships, Eric saw it fit to base an album on a petrochemical plant in Scarborough in the north of England. This was a pretty good album overall and contained one of our biggest hits, Don't Answer Me . I remember the song had started sounding like Abba until we hit upon the idea of trying to emulate Phil Spector's Wall Of Sound and started quadruple tracking all the instruments and smothering them in echo. The success of the song was helped by a very effective animation video in the style of the Dick Tracy newspaper cartoons, which was heavily rotated on MTV. The album was definitely the Eric Woolfson show in the vocal department, carrying four vocal renditions by him including the epic title track, which I recall took days and days of studio time to get right. During the process, I almost went nuts trying to persuade Eric to let someone else sing it.
